Frequently Asked Questions about BusinessKitbag.com
What is BusinessKitbag.com?
BusinessKitbag.com is the UK’s free, independent directory of small business software and web-based business services.
We have researched hundreds of online business tools, apps, and services, and publish details of what we consider to be the best for UK businesses.
How can I trust the selections made by BusinessKitbag.com?
We have spent hours researching all the best online business tools for UK small business so you don’t have to. We compile the most popular options and cut the list down based on relevance to our audience.
We like to keep the list to usually no more than twelve as having too many choices can be overwhelming and unhelpful. We read reviews on the shortlisted products and choose the ones with the most even reviews.
What are the star rating scores?
The star rating score is a weighted average score based on user and expert reviews on a broad range of review websites.
Although BusinessKitbag.com only lists products that we recommend, the star ratings are there to help give you additional guidance on how users feel about each product. The rating score is only a general guide to the overall performance of that product.
Reviews and ratings are subjective! Users may have quite differing needs and therefore their experience of the same product can be markedly different. Similarly, users may harshly score a product because of a bad customer service experience, even though they are pleased with the software.
Products with very few ratings do not display a score as we feel that a combined rating score may be misleading in these cases.
We also choose to feature products which are new or yet to be reviewed if we feel they meet the needs of our audience. A lack of score and ratings does not mean they aren’t a great product. If it wasn’t a great product, we wouldn’t be listing it.
How do you rank products?
The order in which products are ranked within categories is simply an editorial judgement.
We don’t use star ratings to rank products as this can be misleading in some cases. All products which are featured on BusinessKitbag.com are suitable for UK small businesses, but within each category we pick out those which deserve a higher ranking.
In addition to factors such as user and expert ratings, suitability for UK conditions, ease of use, cost, variety of features, and user support, we also consider more difficult to define factors such as aesthetic considerations. Products which are equally suitable are presented in random order.
As we only ever display a limited number of products in any one category – usually no more than 12 – we feel that the order of products is not very important in any case, and you should consider every product for inclusion in your shortlist.
Which review sites do you use?
We check across multiple review websites to get a broad consensus of opinion about each product, and compute a weighted average rating score from user ratings.
The review sites we currently use include:
- PC Magazine
Can I make a suggestion for a product listing?
We encourage feedback from our users and if there is a great online business tool out there that has passed us by which you feel we should add to the website, please do get in touch at email@example.com.
What happens if I sign up for an account?

In addition, please follow our social media channels for up to date promotions.
How does the site make money?
We select the most suitable products for our UK small business audience to publish on businesskitbag.com. Where we can we sign up for affiliate deals which means if you click a link on our website and it transfers you to the product you are interested in, a cookie is lodged on your device which lets that merchant know you came to them via our website. If you make a sale, in some cases we will be be rewarded with a commission for having delivered you to their website. This is most certainly not the case for all products we feature and we do not select the listings we publish on the basis of affiliate relationships. Our aim is to create a useful, free, informative website about online tools and services for UK small businesses. If we can monetise that here and there then it keeps the site viable for all to benefit.
